The Lab Assistant

- By Winnie Dougherty

Hello everyone. My name is Winnie, and I’m the Lab Assistant at JustUs Skincare.

A bit about me. When I was a baby puppy in Montana, I couldn’t wait to find out what my job would be.

You probably know that every dog is assigned a job when they’re a puppy. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to spend my life as a duck dog or doing search and rescue.

Something feminine would be perfect for me. There’s no denying that I came into the world as a beautiful girl, and I had every intention of staying that way.

Then two ladies arrived to take me to my forever home. They both smelled terrific, which I took as a good sign. But when they opened the door to their SUV, I got a whiff of something big and male.

His name was Moose, and it turned out he was my actual uncle. He was not thrilled to meet me. To say he was grumpy was an understatement.

We rode in silence, hour after hour, and his scent began growing on me. Bit by bit I edged toward his immense chest. I was missing my mom, and he looked incredibly cuddly. With a sigh, he let me stay and rested his nose on my head.

It turned out that the two ladies were bringing me to California as a gift to my new family. Moose stayed for a few days and pointed out that I could increase my treat quotient by encouraging the head lady with her skincare business.

I helped with formulas by licking the Acai oil off my new mom’s leg. And when a gallon of tamanu oil exploded on the floor I got my paws in it to show her she should make a paw balm for me.

The best thing I did was to tell my mom she needed a business partner. Because DOG is GOD spelled backward, I was able to manifest the perfect person for her, and I was allowed to ride to pick her up at the airport.

Usually, I’m unfriendly to new people, because part of my job is to protect all the intellectual property the business has. But in this case, it was important to let the family know that this person was what was what was necessary to get the business show on the road.

So as soon as she got in the car, I threw myself on her from the back seat and madly kissed her and licked her. Everyone took it as a sign.

When we moved to the desert, I got my own pool and a promotion. Moose and his women came to see me a lot, and he always knew the next step to advance my career. He was the one who encouraged me to suggest a fundraiser for the horse rescue, and how to star in Facebook content by being super cute.

The last time Moose came to visit me, he was an old dude. I still annoyed the heck out of him, but I knew he loved being my uncle because he let me share a bed with him, and share the pillows, which is saying a lot.

Moose went to the Rainbow Bridge. My heart is broken, but I am in touch with him. Humans don’t know how to do this, but I say again, DOG is GOD spelled backwards.

In his honor, I have created my first formula. It is a paw balm with tamanu oil in it, which really helps my toe beans and booper. We’re calling it Rover Repair. Evelyn thinks she thought of the name. She didn’t. That was Moose.

Love from,

Winnie
